About
Hi, I'm James Wolf
Freelance web designer helping small businesses get a professional website without the technical headaches. You work directly with me—no agency handoffs, no wondering who is actually building your site.
The person behind the work
I work solo by choice. That means you work directly with the person designing and building your site—no handoffs, no agency overhead, and no wondering who is actually doing the work.
My focus is small businesses: owners who are great at what they do but would rather not deal with hosting, domains, contact forms, or any of the technical side. Maybe you don't have a website at all yet. Maybe the one you have is outdated or embarrassing. Either way, I handle the build and setup so you can stay focused on your customers.
The work in this portfolio is intentionally fictional—concept redesigns that show how I think about layout, hierarchy, and conversion for each industry. When we work together, the goal is the same: understand your business, design with your customers in mind, and ship something you're proud to share.
- Solo freelancer—you work directly with me on every project
- I handle hosting, domain setup, contact forms, and all the technical work
- No website or technical experience required to get started

How it works
From first conversation to live site
When we work together, I'll guide you through the few decisions only you can make—and handle everything else, from design through launch.
- 01
Discover
We talk about your business, your customers, and what you need the site to do. No technical background required—just a clear picture of what you offer and who you're trying to reach.
- 02
Plan
We map out pages, content, and how visitors will reach you. I'll tell you what I need from you and handle the rest—no guesswork once design begins.
- 03
Design & build
I design and develop your site mobile-first. Clean layouts, fast load times, and structure that helps local customers find you—without template bloat or jargon.
- 04
Launch
You purchase your domain; I handle hosting, connect your contact form so inquiries land in your inbox, and get everything live. When we launch, it just works.
Approach
What I prioritize on every project
These guide every layout decision, content choice, and line of code—whether it's a concept redesign or a live client site.
Simplicity
Every section earns its place. No filler, no distracting effects—just clear communication.
Clarity
Visitors should know what you do, where you serve, and how to reach you within seconds.
Performance
Lean pages that load fast on mobile networks—the experience local customers expect.
Beyond the screen
A little context outside of client work
When I'm not designing or building sites, you'll usually find me traveling, playing video games, or with my head buried in a book. The photo above is from a hike in Bryce Canyon. Getting away from the desk helps me come back with a clearer head.
I'm based in Wisconsin, but I work with local businesses wherever they are. Good web design doesn't require being in the same room; it requires clear communication and a shared understanding of your customers.
- Traveling to new places
- Gaming on PC or PS5
- Reading a good book
- Exploring local coffee shops and restaurants
- Spending time with my wife and pets
